CLACS supports funding for 4 different research fellowship programs. These fellowships are meant to provide research support to MA and Ph.D. students whose thesis projects focus on Latin America.
Tinker Foundation Fellowship
Awards are intended primarily to support graduate students at the master’s or doctoral level wishing to conduct research in Latin America. The Tinker Foundation defines Latin America as the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries of the Western Hemisphere; it does not include Puerto Rico, Belize, or the Iberian Peninsula. Any graduate student with Latin American-related interests is eligible to apply. Students who have already achieved ABD status are not eligible to apply as the award is not intended for advanced dissertation research. Citizens of Latin American countries enrolled at UIUC may receive awards to conduct research in their home countries if they have no previous field research experience related to the proposed project in that country.
Whitten Fellowship
Awards are intended primarily to support graduate students at the master’s or doctoral level wishing to conduct research in Latin America. Any graduate student with Latin American-related interests is eligible to apply. Citizens of Latin American countries enrolled at UIUC may receive awards to conduct research in their home countries if they have no previous field research experience related to the proposed project in that country.
Kilby Fellowship
Thanks to the generous support of Professor Werner Baer (Economics), CLACS offers competitive fellowships to graduate students working in Latin America under the Kilby Fellowship. This fellowship is intended for Ph.D. students who have reached ABD status.
Love Fellowship
